In the Certificate II and III in Multimedia, we are looking at how to design a logo to represent ourselves.

Logos are easily recognised, rememberable, often iconic, sometimes off the wall and most importantly representational of the individual or group as required.

For example, the logos for Australia Post, Target, Mitsubishi, the Commonwealth Bank and SBS are easily remembered. Other TV Companies such as Nine, Seven and the ABC have logos that are easy to envision and reproduce (well, they are!).

The key to this is the Keep It Simple Stupid idea. If we keep this in mind our logos and anything else we create will be easily remembered.

Anyhow, a basic process for the design of a logo may be:

To help us to do this we start off by sketching random ideas on paper.

Then we eliminate the ones that do not work for us until we get to two or three that we like.

This then allows us to draw more precisely the idea, ready for conversion into a computer based version of the logo.

To help us in the conversion of the logo the students will be posting comments to this post that cover:

  1. Tutorial on designing a logo,
  2. Their most rememberable logo design for a company, business, group, game or other item.
The tutorial will be a web page or similar and the students will be posting the title and a link to the tutorial for their classmates to refer to as well. They are trying to create a list of resources that will help them in their quest to design a logo.
Once they have done these two questions, the students are then creating their logo in Adobe Illustrator, then posting a small version of them on their blogs. The blog version should be at most 480 x 480 pixels in size.
